Paste for supper

Tonight I got home from work and started supper right away to get it over with. It was a "breakfast for supper" kind of night - biscuits and gravy. Everything was going terrific when suddenly the gravy was so thick that it formed something resembling the texturing stuff you put on walls. It tasted okay, but I couldn't get past the texture. I guess this is one dish I am not supposed to make cause it rarely turns out for me.

Which brings me to this. I am so sick of cooking. I need some inpiration. We can't afford to eat out for supper every night - nor would I want to. But I've hit a concrete block and need someone to give me some great ideas! Anyone have any suggestions?? Please click on the comments link below to write your suggestions to me. Please!!

I'm reading this book right now called "Eat Pray Love" by Elizabeth Gilbert. It's a really good book. The thing that I always wonder about is how these people are able to travel for a year or more to just live in some foreign country. I mean, how do they pay for their living expenses? I know the answer is that they save or find work to do in these places to get by. But wow. I just can't imagine being that adventurous.

The tip for today was inspired by something my mother has done for years. (There ma, I mentioned you. Are you happy now?) To remove eye makeup with out having to scrub use petroleum jelly and a tissue. It will keep the skin around your eyes soft and will remove the makeup with no harsh chemicals. Just rub a little bit on your eyes. It will remove all of your eye makeup quite easily. Rub it off with a tissue and a gentle hand so you don't make your eyes sore. You may need to use another tissue to remove any remaining petroleum jelly.

Have you been over to the GroceryCartChallenge blog? I've gotten a ton of recipe ideas from her. It's also helped that I've been going through my cookbooks copying recipes for a newly married friend of ours, and am seeing recipes that I had forgotten about.

Yes, I go to that blog every day. She has some great tips. I've only made 1 of her recipes and that turned out pretty good. I did copy a couple others but have not tried them yet.

3# boneless chuck roast
4-5 cloves garlic
1 Tbl rosemary
1 can whole tomatoes
4 servings of new or yukon gold or similar potatoes
salt, pepper
olive oil

peel garlic, cut two slices in roast, stick 1 clove in each slice. Brown the roast in olive oil, 7 minutes per side or so.

Toss browned roast, rosemary, remaining garlic and tomatoes into slow cooker. 4-6 hours on high.

Absolutely delicious! Paul fixed this last week and it was great! I imagine you could leave it on medium and have it be ready when you come home. Do the prep the night before, leave it in the fridge overnight, toss it in the slow cooker or crock pot in the morning. He did *not* add any extra water.

From Aliisa:
I recommend a cookbook called Cheap, Fast, Good by Beverly Mills and Alicia Ross. All of the recipes are start to finish in 30 minutes or less, they are inexpensive and they have a section in there for bulk cooking for example: They will have a recipe for ground beef where you cook up several pounds and then they list several recipes with page numbers in the book that you can use it in. You just freeze it and use it when you are ready to make those meals. I havent had the cookbook very long but every recipe we have tried has been good.

Hope that helps!!

I will have to check that book out. I love to read cookbooks and have a kitchen full of them!
